Lady Wolverines Open Season on the Road; At Home Tonight vs. Sisseton

Last Tuesday, the CGB Wolverine Girls basketball team opened their season by travling to Campbell to take on Campbell-Tintah-Fairmount. The Lady Wolverines started the game strong and held a 9-7 lead after one quarter. Things got tough for CGB in the second quarter when CTF out scored CGB 23-5 to take a 30-14 lead at the half. The Wolverines played even with their opponents in the second half but came out on the short end of a 52-37 final score. Marissa Dahl led the team with 13 points followed by Kyrsten Karsky with 10. Kayla Schmitz and Krysten each pulled down 8 rebounds while Marissa had 6. Molly Taffe dished out 3 assists and Kaitlin Karsky led the squad with 3 steals. The Wolverines shot just 36% from the field but they did make 4 of 8 three point shots.
On Saturday the girls traveled to Lidgerwood, ND, and lost a well played game to the Lidgerwood Cardinals by a final score of 59-54. The Wolverines played a competitive first quarter but ran into trouble again in the second and found themselves behind 33-19 at halftime. CGB regrouped at halftime and outscored the Cardinals 20-15 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 9 points. The Wolverines got as close as 4 points on a couple of possessions in the fourth quarter but were unable to get any closer. The game ended with a hard-fought 59-54 loss. CGB had four players in double digits in points. Kysten Karsky led the way with 15, Molly Taffe followed with 11 and Kassandra Stueve and Marissa Dahl each had 10. Kaitlin Karsky had 8 rebounds while Kyrsten pulled down 6 and Kayla Schmitz grabbed 5. Kassandra led the team with 6 assists. The girls shot a very good 45% from the floor including 6-13 in three pointers.
