Meadowlakes suffered a rash of car burglaries last week just after Burnet County officials issued a warning against leaving vehicles unlocked.

But at least in once case, the holiday spirit lived on.

Following a warning issued earlier this week regarding holiday safety and vehicle security, Burnet County Sheriffs Investigator Stephen Savoy said that overnight on Thursday, 16 vehicles in the City of Meadowlakes were entered and eight had items stolen from inside, including several Christmas gifts.

"All of the vehicles were unlocked," Savoy said.

Fortunately, the Grinch didn't steal everyone's holiday spirit.

Eight-year-old Piper Guenter found a few of the belongings stolen from her friend and neighbor, Jennifer Virdell.

Savoy encourages anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the sheriffs department at 512.756.8080. Another option is to contact Hill Country Area Crime Stoppers at 1.866.756.8477.
