Library news

As most of you know Bertram's Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library is part of the Burnet County Library System, and we in Bertram have access to all of the system's books and programs.

Recently the system bought a program called ArtistWorks for Libraries. ArtistWorks includes music lessons for a variety of band instruments, piano and guitar, plus drawing lessons and even vocal lessons. Library patrons can best access the program by going to www.burnetcountytexas.org and following the links. Library cards are needed in order to use the program. Those who do not have a card are welcome to stop by any of the system's libraries and get one free of charge.

The library system also has plans to soon acquire another program called "Transparent Languages," which will enable the user to study and learn various languages.

Now that the holidays are over, don't forget to take advantage of the library's free Story Time Program for toddlers each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Also, the library furnishes a free meeting room for the public's needs.

Call 512-355-2113 for more information on the room or any of the library's programs.

Livestock show news The 49th Annual Burnet County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show took place Jan. 7-9 and 57 Bertram area youths participated.

Figures are not totaled for this year's sale, but each of our participants sold at least one animal. Many thanks go to the Bertram Buying Committee and local organizations and individuals who raised the money for this worthy purpose. The kids work hard all year to raise their animal, and considerable cost is involved.

That's all the news for this week. Email marciemasterson@gmail.com if you have any items of interest for this column. The deadline for submission is always on Saturday.
