Cheney graduates receive EWU grants

Johnathan Weisgerber of Cheney has been awarded the Betty Miller scholarship for $500 for the 2009-10 academic year at Eastern Washington University. The award is given to students who are music majors and/or perform in the university's music department.

Weisgerber graduated from Cheney High School three years ago, where he played baseball and was a member of jazz band and wind ensemble.

He currently attends EWU where he is studying music performance. Weisgerber is involved with wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz ensemble, trombone quartet, trombone choir, and honors brass quartet.

Weisgerber is the son of Bill Weisgerber and LuAnn Heer-Weisgerber of Cheney.

Morgan Gariepy of Four Lakes has been awarded the history scholarship for $500 for the 2009-10 academic year at Eastern Washington University. The award is given to students who are history majors.

Gariepy graduated from Cheney High School two years ago, where she was in concert and show choir.

She currently attends EWU where she is studying history. Gariepy is also treasurer for the Phi Alpha Theta soror-ity.

Gariepy is the daughter of Robert Gariepy of Cheney and Cindv Scott of Springdale.
