Lanesboro Local has just been presented with a great opportunity we didn't expect, and we hope you will help us.

A challenge has been issued by the Southern Minnesota Initiative Fund who will match, dollar for dollar, funds we raise from local supporters by the end of January. Our goal is to raise $6,400 in order to earn the full $6,400 matching grant.

We know you support the idea of buying local. Now you can become a "Friend of Lanesboro Local" by helping expand Lanesboro Local's efforts to grow the vitality of our rural communities. With the ever-improving

Marketplace, we help local producers of food, goods, and services reach a market which they cannot reach alone. And as we all shop local, the result is that we live local and live well.

Help us meet this challenge grant. We suggest that you consider a tax-deductible gift of $100 or $500, if you can. A gift of any size will help move us closer to our goal and will be much appreciated.

Right now your gift will be doubled. A gift of $100 will be worth $200. A $500 donation becomes $1,000 for our organization. We especially encourage new supporters to help grow the work of building the local movement.

You can donate by sending a check to Lanesboro Local Marketplace, P.O. Box 94, Lanesboro, MN 55949. Or, you can stop into the Marketplace and donate with cash or credit card. Winter hours are Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also link to http://www.lanesborolo-cal.org/11-join-us-friend.php and pay via Pay Pal or credit card.

While the Marketplace has grown dramatically in the three years since we opened, we know that the third year is the toughest one for new organizations and businesses. We are moving closer to year-round financial stability. The staff and board have many ideas for improvements, but these often entail costs. With your help we can implement a robust marketing campaign and programs to engage more residents and visitors in the joy of buying local.

Whether you shop in the Marketplace, produce items for sale, participate in our programs like the film series or classes, or just believe in our vibrant local economy, you can demonstrate your support with a Friends of Lanesboro Local membership.

We appreciate the investment you make locally when you shop at the Marketplace. Share suggestions with the staff or board members about products you would like to see there, and we will do our best to respond.

The following is a list of our board and staff members: Nancy Martinson, Mimi Abell, Nancy North, Ceil Allen, Mary Bell, Kim Charlebois, Andy Batstone, Stena Lieb, Loni Kemp, Andrea Miehlisch, Bonnie Haugen, Lori Slindee and Linda Tacke.
