SPEARMAN - Vernetta Lesly Hibbs, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2009 in Church of Christ with John Scott officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Vernetta was born May 28, 1926, in Bisbee, Ariz. She married TO. Lesly on Nov. 23, 1940. He preceded her in death. She married Ed Hibbs I on May 28, 1991. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Spearman.

She was also a gardener and an artist. She worked alongside her husband to help build a farm and rear a family. She was most of all a strong person with Christian values, and a mother and a nanny. She was a wonderful caregiver to everyone she knew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Dorothea Conner; her first husband, TO. Lesly; and two sons, David Lesly in 1986 and Richard Lesly in 1955.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Hibbs; two daughters, Linda Thrasher and husband Kenneth of Canadian and Hazel Scott and husband John of Spearman; four sisters, Hazel Lesly of Spearman, Pauline McClure and Barbara Irby, both of Kerrville, and Geneva Malone of Lubbock; two brothers, Jack Conner of Lubbock and Vernon Conner of San Angelo; two stepsons, Edward Hibbs and wife Lynn of Enid, Okla., and Richard Hibbs and wife Cathy of Edmond, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Luke Thrasher and wife Sarah and Lindy Long, all of Canadian, Elisa Crum and husband Denver of Earth, Brandon Thrasher, Brooke and husband Tyler, all of Amarillo, Carly Simmons and husband Clay of Austin, Haley Shields and husband Joel, Ashley Patterson and husband Caleb and Smacy Holton and husband Jason, all of Spearman, and Skip Lesly and wife Martha of Fort Worth; and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081; and Hansford and Spearman EMS. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 5, 2010.
