Amanda Yonts, the 24 year old who was reportedly being treated for a drug overdose at Whites-burg ARH before escaping authorities last week remained at large at press time. But she wasn't there for long.

"The day before, she was actually going to sign herself out of the hospital's ICU and they called me to come up and get her," said Cpt. Henry Day of the Whitesburg Police Department. "When she saw me she decided to stay back in the hospital."

Police say around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, Yonts snuck out a stairwell and into one of the hospital's vehicles. It only took hospital staff a few minutes to figure out the F-150 had been stolen. Police recovered the truck in the King's Creek community in Letcher County a few hours later, but there was no sign of Yonts.

"We have had numerous phone calls yesterday saying she was in the King's Creek area," Day told WYMT- TV. "We went over there but were unable to locate her. Then we got a phone call today saying she's possibly in the Pike County area."

Yonts is wanted on several warrants in Pike County.

Police say though this case is unique, they're not surprised this crime stems from drug abuse.
