Memorial services for Evelyn "Elaine" Newton, age 85 of Knoxville and formerly Pleasantville, was held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Osceola, Iowa at a later date.

Evelyn Elaine (VanDall) Newton was born on October 28, 1928 in Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin C. VanDall Sr. and Ethyl I. (Adamson) VanDall.

Elaine grew up in Osceola and then moved with her family to Des Moines where she graduated from East High School. She was united in marriage to Richard A. Newton Sr. on December 17, 1955 in Bishop, Texas. The two were later divorced. As a Navy wife, Elaine raised her family all over the United States. She held many different jobs over the years to help support her family. She was a strong woman and believed in her faith.

She passed away on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the West Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses: Marvin C. VanDall Jr.(Frances (Rodda) VanDall), Jeanette (VanDall) Almeida, Helen (VanDall) Marshall (Gurn Marshall); nephews, Todd Frey and Jeffrey Marshall.

She is survived by her children: Richard A. Newton Jr. (Ruth), Tamra R. Newton Lee (David), Kay Ann Taylor; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
