Williamstown halts Lady Rebel streak

After winning four games in a row, the Lady Rebels were beaten by Williamstown, 84-64, to have their streak halted.

Kenzie Smith led the Lady 'Jackets to victory, scoring 28 points.

Tristin Toman continued to score well for the Lady Rebels as she tossed in 28 points ofher own Amanda Davis continued to score in double figures as she scored 11 points. Abby Burgess also was in double figures with 10 points.

Ritchie fell behind by nine points at the end of the first quarter as the 'Jackets outscored the Ritchie girls 23-14.Toman led the Lady Rebels in the opening quarter with 10 points.

"We got off to a slow start and fell behind 17-4 early, but in the second we cut it to 23-20 at one point," said Dave McCullough, the Lady Rebel coach

The Lady Rebels had a good scoring quarter in the second putting 18 points on the board. Toman again led the scoring for the Ritchie girls as she had eight points. Vanessa Tallman was second in scoring with six points.

Williamstown stretched their lead to 11 at halftime as it had 20 points of its own in the quarter. The teams left the floor for the halftime break with the Lady 'Jackets leading 43-32.

"Williamstown had a late run in the second quarter and another one in the third period to build their lead to 26. We could only cut the lead to 18 in the fourth quarter," McCullough said.

Following the break, the Lady 'Jackets came out storming and put 26 points on the board.

In the meantime, the Lady Rebels had their lowest quarter of scoring as they could manage just 12 points and at the end of the period the winning Lady Jackets had pushed their lead to 69-44. Tristin Toman had five in the quarter, followed by Amanda Davis with three.

In the final eight minutes of action, the Lady Rebels out-pointed Williamstown 20-15, but it was too little, too late and Williamstown won the Little Kanawha Conference North Division contest, 84-64.

The loss dropped the Lady Rebels to 5-3. Abby Burgess led the team in the fourth quarter as she tossed in eight points.

The Lady Rebels had a great night shooting from two-point range, hitting 57 percent of their shots. They also had a good night at the foul line converting 10 of 13 (77 percent).

Turnovers continued to haunt the Lady Rebels as they had 34 miscues.

"We cannot turn the ball over that many times and expect to win a game. This is another game that we can learn from and continue getting better," McCullough said.

The Lady Rebels are idle until Dec. 28 and Dec. 29 when they play in the Doddridge tournament. Ritchie 14 18 12 20 -64
