Watson is appointed to Akron Care Center Board

This is the second time he'll take up the challenge of serving on the Akron Care Center Board of Trustees.

Bob Watson, also known as "PA. Bob" for many years in Akron, served on the board for nine years, 1988 - 1997.

The Olathe, Kan., native has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in medicine and surgery. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, including one year overseas during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of captain.

From the Whiteman Air Force Base, Watson moved to Akron in 1988. He was employed as a physician's assistant until he retired in 2007.

Watson was the City of Akron's medical director for 16 years and served on the State Emergency Medical Services Board as the Western Iowa representative for six years.

He also is a member of the Knights of Columbus Grand Knights, where he has served as treasurer; an Akron Lions Club member, where he has served as president and secretary numerous times; an Albert E. Hoschler American Legion Post No. 186 member and most recently joined the Geezers Club, of which members volunteer their time and talents to help Akron-Westfield teachers with accomplishing classroom improvement projects and getting classroom materials.

Watson and his wife, Dee, have four children: Daniel and his wife Theresa of Clearwater, Minn.; Lori and her husband Todd Hoffman of Clearwater, Minn.; Sunday and her husband, Adam Ford of Hawarden; and Rhonda and her husband, Neal Gamache of Denver, Colo. They have 11 grandchildren and are members of St. Patrick's Church in Akron.

Watson enjoys making home repairs, woodworking, auto repair and working in his yard. His No. 1 favorite hobby is spending time with his grandchildren. Watson also enjoys fishing and hunting.
