This 37th Annual International Sports Jamboree at North Bend State Park is on track to once again cater to athletes with disabilities which include those who are legally blind or who require use of any type of wheelchair, crutches, or walkers.

This year's theme is Salute to the Armed Forces, with events scheduled for July 17, 18th and 19th.

As Attorney General Chauncey Browning once said, "The right to win and the right to lose exists only if you have the right to compete. The Sports Jamboree gives you the right and opportunity to complete where the odds are more nearly equal."

With a June 13th deadline to register for the events, those 8 to 40 years old are encouraged to contact Diana Buzzard at 304-965-1779 or email her at for an application.

The first event was started by the Telephone Pioneers, with assistance from the WV Division of Tourism, North Bend State Park staff, Canadian friends and many volunteers. Today, it is sponsored by New Vision and AT&T Pioneers with assistance from those who have helped make it happen since the beginning.

Fridays' events include registration, practice sessions and entertainment in the amphitheater.

On Saturday, formal opening ceremonies begin at 8:00 AM at the playground area at North Bend. Participants are introduced, with welcome by Park Superintendent Steve Jones, and by Sports Jamboree General Chairperson Lonnie Pennington, with invocation by H. V. Smith.

Games are officially declared open by Pioneer Diana Buzzard and competition includes 40-yard race, gold, basketball, pilot race with visually and mobility participants joining forces, bowling, horseshoes, and air rifle.

After an exhilarating day of fun, fellowship and competition, contestants gather at the amphitheater along the river at 6:30 p.m. for the awards ceremony and entertainment, following by the party at the lodge, to close out a weekend that will be forever etched in the minds of participants, Pioneers and volunteers alike!

Come out and cheer these athletes on to victory, and help them celebrate a tremendous weekend at North Bend!

If you wish to become a sponsor or for additional information contact Chairman Pennington at 304-722-3078, email, check out the New Vision website,, or contact D. J.Allen at
