Local cosmetologist takes on solo business

Michellle Books opened her Rehoboth Avenue salon to give clients the best experience possible to renew, refresh and revitalize their entire being. Since opening in April, she offers massage, skin care, facials, waxing and other services.

With seven years of experience in skin care and two years in massage therapy, Books is the sole staff member at the new business. She took the plunge to open her own private venture with help from her business associate, Laura Wheeler.

"I've always wanted to go into business by myself. It's me and myself, so it's a little more personable," says Books. "A lot of my clients have become more like friends than clients."

The salon doubles as a resale shop stocked with clothing she calls pre-loved, homemade scrubs, candles and skin products. Books donates 25 percent of her resale profit to a different charity every month. Wheeler is a breast cancer survivor, so Books says this month she will be donating to St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital.

The store, at 308 Rehoboth Ave., is open to any clothing donations and will give donors 10 percent off any purchase.
