The POW Farmer's Market Board of Directors has been changed to an Advisory Committee working under the auspices of the City of Thorne Bay - the recipient of grant monies for the Farmer's Market Program. Benefits to the Farmer's Market under the new organization include not requiring the Advisory Committee to have its own banking account, P.O. Box, telephone and bookkeeping system, as all of these necessities are already in place in the Thorne Bay City Administration Office.

The Advisory Committee has advertised for a manager to organize & oversee the Farmer's Market events to be held across the Island between May and September, and to act as an information liaison between customers, vendors & the Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee selected a manager from the applicants at the meeting that was held on April 6th. The meeting is open to the public & everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Eight Farmer's Market events have been scheduled so far this year. The first event will occur May 26 in Craig during the POW Marathon. June events will be held in Klawock during the Sockeye Festival & Kasaan, with the Crab Festival, and a July event in Hydaburg with the Cultural Camp. The Farmer's Market event in Thorne Bay will be held in August during Thorne Bay Day, and Coffman Cove will hold its event in August in conjunction with the Arts Festival. Coffman Cove may schedule a second ev-ent during the summer. Hollis will host its Farmer's Market on September 7th in conjunction with the Annual Hollis Volunteer Fire Department Raffle and Yard Sale. Craig will host its 2nd Farmer's Market event September 25th thru 27th during the SE Conference that is being hosted this year by Craig City. Naukati & Whale Pass have not yet decided to participate in the program. The Advisory Committee holds it regular monthly meeting the 1 st Friday of each month, & from May through September, will hold the meetings in one of the communities that happens to be hosting a Farmer's Market event that particular month.

Booth cost categories are: a 6'x6' space is $ 10 per day and in-cludes one table. Each tent can hold three tables. A10'x 10' space is $ 15 per day and includes one table. A whole tent can be rented for $30 per day and includes 2 tables. You can bring your own tent but will still have to pay a $10 fee per day.
