Get your discount pizza. Raise a 4-H backbone. "Fundraisers like this are the backbone of the program. They allow activities to happen at a reasonable rate for 4-H families and provide programs and activities that the youth enjoy are age appropriate and want to take part in," said Fillmore County 4-H Extension coordinator LeeAnn Howard, sharing about the organization's current countywide sale of cards that entitle buyers to discounts at various shops and restaurants within the county.

There are more than 30 businesses from throughout the county on the card. The discounts range from a free small pizza to a beverage with the purchase of a meal or sandwich, and all Fillmore County 4-H families are selling the cards.

The cards are good for over a year, with an expiration of April 30, 2013.

Howard noted, "The 4-H federation chose to sell these cards after many months of discussion at monthly federation meetings. This was an option where the group felt like the local merchants would also benefit from increased business and the 4-H program could make some money to continue and increase programming.

"They are a great support to the Fillmore County 4-H program, as well as a percentage of the proceeds will go to each local club, so this fundraiser truly helps everyone."

Funds raised assist 4-Hers in numerous activities, as the clubs have already been very busy this year. Howard added, "They're involved in many spring activities ... a variety of service project sand activities. Often, this includes planting gardens for food shelves and farmers' markets, and beginning plans toward the county fair. March was a particularly busy month for 4-H members throughout the county, as there were activities every weekend to take part in."
