Charles M. Johnson Jr. serves term as chair of Minnesota Bankers Association

Charles M. Johnson Jr., president of Root River State Bank, Chatfield, and The First State Bank of Fountain, recently completed his term as Chair of the Minnesota Bankers Association (MBA). He will serve on the MBA's Executive Committee as Immediate Past Chair during 2012-2013. Johnson passed the MBA gavel on to the new MBA Chair, Bryan Bruns, on June 19 during the MBA's annual meeting at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.

"Chuck did an excellent job as Chair of the MBA," said MBA President/CEO Joe Witt. "He is very dedicated to the banking industry and the association."

Johnson started in the lending area at the Root River State Bank in 1984 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1985. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the bank in 2006. In 1987 he was elected to the Board of Directors of The First State Bank of Fountain. He became an employee of that bank in 2006 and was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 2006.

Johnson is a member of the Chatfield Commercial Club, Chatfield Lions Club, Chosen Valley Community Foundation Treasurer, and a board member of the Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota. He has also served as Treasurer of the Chatfield Rotary Club. His past MBA involvement includes Board Treasurer, Group Insurance Committee Chair, District 1 Board representative, ISI and EBT Board member, and chair of the Annual Meeting Planning/Bank Management Task Force.

Other MBA officers include:Chair, Bryan Bruns, President of Annandale State Bank; Chair-Elect, Steve Erdall, President of Western Bank, Edina; Vice Chair/Treasurer, Steve Daggett, President of Midwest Bank, Detroit Lakes; and MBA President/CEO Joe Witt. Elected officers serve as members of the MBA Board of Directors, which is the policymaking and governing body for the MBA.
