The Lewes Historical Society invites the public for a chance to win an exclusive original acrylic painting by local artist Barbara Petterson. Her wintry scene of the East End Lighthouse in Lewes reminds the viewer of how beautiful the coastline is after a light dusting of snow. The 8-by-16-inch painting is professionally framed. Petterson has graciously donated the painting to the society to raffle. The image will also be used on the ticket cover of the 2016 Christmas Tour of Lewes set for Dec. 3.

"The Lewes Historical Society thanks Barbara for donating the beautiful painting for raffle to benefit the society," said Mike DiPaolo, executive director. "Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the society's efforts to continue offering a rich and exciting array of activities that engage our visitors and promote Lewes's unique heritage."

Petterson's representational acrylic paintings are primarily panoramas of the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach areas. Her carefully composed triangular or circular compositions feature bright, crisp colors and rich textures. These saltwater and agricultural themes are signed with her maiden name, Fiock. She also crafts beautiful fine jewelry made from various coastal materials such as oyster shells.

She has a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts from the University of Maryland, a master of arts in fine arts and painting from American University, and additional course work at Baylor University, George Washington University and Gallaudet University.

She has won numerous awards, and her paintings appear in both private and corporate collections. Her work is currently exhibited at Rehoboth Art League and Lewes Yacht Club. Visits to her studio at 130 McFee St. in Lewes can be arranged by appointment. For more information about studio tours, call the society's museum store at 302-645-7670.
