REGION — The Elk Rapids Lions Club recently launched its Fall Grant Cycle for community projects that support the club's mission of "serving the community." From now through Friday, Oct. 16 the Elk Rapids Lions Club will accept applications for Organizational Grants from groups that are in (or serve) the local community.

Organizations should contact the club's grant committee chair, Tamy Valenzuela to request an application by email tamval@live.com or call 231-735-6799.

Applications can also be found on the website at: http://eclubhouse.org/sites/elkrapids/page-6.php.

The club also offers a grant cycle in the spring from April 1 through May 15, 2016.

"We believe this semiannual approach allows us to allocate our funds more equitably," said Shirley Hill, club president. "This system also gives us the ability to proactively fundraise over and above our annual events as we become aware of special community needs."

In addition, the club also accepts requests — and responds to emergency assistance — from individuals for eyeglasses, hearing aids and other emergency-related needs throughout the year.

For those individual requests, contact emergency assistance chair Bob Loper at goodman@charter.net or 231-264-9288, or Hill at lhirley@yahoo.com or 231-258-4894

Names of individuals applying for assistance always remain anonymous, but group/organizational projects supported by the Lions are publicly announced when they are provided.
