The maugural Woocimville CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Saturday, May 2. If you're looking to make a difference for families in need, the local organizers of the Walk hope to raise $5,000 in this first year to combat hunger in the local community and around the world.

This year Woodinville and some 2,000 cities and towns nationwide arejoining together in community CROP Hunger Walks based on the theme, "Ending hunger one step at a time."

The Walk route is an approximate 3-mile loop, beginning at Woodinville Community United Methodist Church, winding through downtown Woodinville and past Wilmot Park, continuing to 21 Acres for a water stop and guided walk through the 21 Acres Farm, and ending back at the church.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Organizers are encouraging folks to walk with their families and friends or form a team to help raise funds to combat hunger.

"Twenty-five percent of the funds raised will stay in Woodinville to help alleviate hunger locally, and 75 percent will go toward worldwide efforts to link people to sustainable and nutritious food sources," said Walk representative Lin Hagedorn. "The funds raised for our community will be donated to Woodinville Storehouse Food Bank."

According to the food bank's director of communication Julia Francis, the Woodinville Storehouse has been in operation since 2010, providing non-perishables, fresh dairy, meat, produce, pet food and general hygiene items to over 2,000 households a year in the Woodinville, Bothell, Kirkland and Redmond areas.

The Woodinville Storehouse, at the Woodinville Community United Methodist church, will be open for tours after the walk. The Woodinville Heritage Museum, at 14121 NE 171st Street, will also be open especially for walkers after the event.
