Trial began Sept. 22 in Panama City for Chad Mercer, 19, one of two men charged with the Oct. 18, 2014 death of a Calhoun County man.

Nine people testified Tuesday about the events resulting in the death of Jackie Mc-Clendon, 48, who died in the early morning hours off Old Allenton Road in Bay County.

One of those witnesses was McClendon's stepson, Danny Mayo, of Youngs town, who was also attacked that night.

According to the incident report from the Bay County Sheriff's Office, McClendon, Mayo and a friend were riding four-wheelers when they spotted a bonfire and came up on a party in the woods around 2 a.m.

Words were exchanged between some of the party-goers and the men, which resulted in a fight.

Witnesses said Jay Green, 22, punched Mayo and then hit McClendon, knocking him out. Mercer, who is charged with manslaughter, then reportedly walked over to the unconscious McClendon and kicked him in the head.

The cause of death was determined to be a ruptured artery in the neck.

Attorneys are trying to prove whether it was Mercer's kick or the punch thrown by Green that caused his death. Green is awaiting trial.

Both Mercer and Green are from Youngs town.
