A Blountstown man who answered a deputy's knock by opening the door with a pump-action shotgun in his hand was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and cruelty toward a child, according to a report from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

Steven Lynn Warren, 54, was taken into custody after his wife called for help on Oct. 13.

She told deputies that they had been arguing and he was "highly intoxicated." She said she was holding a one-year-child in her arms when Warren put a knife to her chest, leaving a small laceration, and threatened to kill her.

After Warren answered the door, deputies had to tell him several times to put the gun down before he complied.

Warren told them he and his wife and been arguing and he had told her to get out of his house. He said he started throwing her possessions in the yard and she could get them tomorrow.

He denied anything physical had happened and said he never had a knife.
