A Blountstown man found sitting in his car with the flashers on along NE CR 69 on Oct. 29 told a deputy he ran out of gas after being chased through three counties.

Before then, Trevor McAlpine, 32, said his car had been stolen in Tallahassee but the people who took it returned it to him at the same gas station.

He said he reported the theft to the Tallahassee Police Dept. and was told to come back tomorrow so they could collect evidence from his vehicle. He told the deputy the police officer told him not to touch anything in the car.

McAlpine stated that not only did the thieves return his car, they left a few things behind including four cell phones and a laundry basket full of women's clothing in the trunk.

After checking the Tallahassee Police Dept, Deputy Patrick Crawford found that no report had been made.

When he returned to the car, McAlpine stepped out of the car and the deputy saw a plastic bag with white residue on the floorboard.

McAlpine said he wanted to show him what the thieves had left behind and grabbed four cell phones from the passenger's seat.

He took the deputy around to the trunk, where he opened it to show him the laundry basket and clothing he said was left behind.

The deputy confiscated the bag, which field-tested positive for cocaine, and collected the four cell phones.

McAlpine said his vehicle had been searched by three other law enforcement agencies earlier and nothing illegal was found.

When asked about the white residue, he said it did not belong to him.

He was arrested for possession of cocaine.
