Extension educators offer food preservation classes

University of Idaho Cooperative Extension Educators from the Eastern District are offering a five-week course on the basics of food preservation.

Participants will apply the skills they learn within class labs: canning, freezing, drying, etc. Classes will be held Wednesdays, from 9 a.m. to noon starting March 4 at the Bingham County Extension/4-H Building, 583 West Sexton St., Black foot.

Class topics and dates include: March 4, Canning Basics; March 11, High-acid Foods; March 18, Low-acid Foods; March 25, Freezing and Drying; April 8, Pickling and Preserves.

You may sign up for the whole course for $60 or choose one or more classes for $15 individual classes. The canning basics class on March 4 is required to participate in individual classes.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 25. Contact the Bingham County Extension Office at 583 West Sexton Street, Blackfoot, Idaho or (208) 785-8060 to reserve a spot.
