Day of the Children/Book Day (Dia de los ninos/Dia de los libros) is celebrated on April 30 in most Latin American countries. This year Aberdeen Elementary School had their Hispanic PAC parents and the Aberdeen Public Library organize the activities for Day of the Children held on Thursday, April 30.

They began the assembly with Cecilia the Grandma Magician; she performed some magic tricks and then performed ventriloquism while reading a book to the children. Following these activities, the children received a toy, bag of candy, Popsicle, and book.

The children had a lot of fun, according to principal Robi Jo Colton, and everyone at Aberdeen Elementary School appreciates all of the time and effort each organization put into accomplishing such a fantastic assembly.

The day, commonly know as Dia, is a celebration of children, families and reading that culminates yearly on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of the literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Dia is a nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages and cultures.
