Parent-teacher conferences are an opportunity for parents and teachers to partner in students' education. They help to promote positive, ongoing communication with all the important people in our students' academic experience. Research has repeatedly shown that when parents actively engage with students' education, the students reap significant benefits.

A main ingredient of the parent-teacher conference is exchanging information with the teacher about your child's academic progress and social development. This can include everything from how well your child does in math to how recess time is spent. Writing down your questions about the school day and listing the things that concern you most will help save time and ensure you cover the important topics. Ask your child how he or she feels regarding school, what your child likes or dislikes and what areas are difficult. This will help you prioritize the issues you want to address. The teacher has likely prepared well in advance for the conference and may have questions as well, or provide insight into issues new to you, such as your child's shyness about reading aloud.

Aberdeen Elementary School will hold parent-teacher conferences Thursday, Nov. 5, from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Notices will be sent out soon regarding the conference time that has been set aside for you.

Aberdeen Middle School and Aberdeen High School will hold parent-teacher conferences from 3 to 9 p.m. using a drop-in format.

Parents are always welcome to contact their child's school at any time to discuss any questions or concerns they may have not just during parent-teacher conferences. The school encourages, welcomes, and values partnerships with parents at all times.

As a reminder, parents of students can view their children's grades online using the Power School system. If you do not have your login information for Power-School, contact the school secretary.
