Hearts weigh heavy...

Last week most people in the area probably heard of the shooting of a Brewster woman by an intruder in her home. The same day we received an email from my cousin Mary Pigman of Worthington, it just said, We lost our daughter Jan. Please keep us in your prayers.

Thursday morning we read the story in the Worthington Globe, although at that time no names were mentioned but from the description of a 40 year old woman in Brewster, we knew that our worst fears had became evident.

Best friend and I were her Godparents, and we were devastated at the news. As soon as I found out I emailed my cousin and told her of our sorrow for them and ourselves Also that we would be praying for them.

It is always tough when you lose a loved one, whether it be your immediate family or a close friend. But to lose someone to a senseless act at such a young age is hard to accept.

We watched her and her two sisters grow up, along with our own boys. We have some wonderful memories of all of them. I specifically remember when Janette was just a toddler, both her dad Terry and I had full beards, with similar features and similar builds. Often when we would visit them at their home, both Jan and our son Jason (a year) older would mistake Terry and I for their respective fathers.

When the kids were growing up we visited them quite frequently, but now with all our kids grown up and away from home we seldom get to see one another as much as one would like. Sunday evening we were able to spend a couple of hours visiting with the family and doing what most families do, reminiscing of the past, seeing the rest of their family and grandchildren for the first time in a while.

She was a wonderful mother of a son and daughter and had a beloved husband, and will be so very much missed by all of her family and friends.

As tough as it is, I know that "little Janie" is a special angel in heaven for her parents, her husband and son and daughter!

Tuesday will be a tough day as we will be going to our Goddaughter's funeral. It is especially tough for her family. I know I have heard it said many times one of the toughest things a person can do is to bury their children.

Have a great week and do good!
