Beebe Healthcare and the American Heart Association urge people to learn CPR so they might have the opportunity to save the life of someone suffering a heart attack. The association reports each year that more than 735,000 people in the United States suffer heart attacks. About 70 percent of heart attack sufferers are not in a hospital setting where they would receive emergency medical care. Instead, they are at home or in a place where their chance of survival could double or even triple if someone could provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The AHA estimates only about 10 percent of people who suffer a heart attack outside a hospital will survive.

Community CPR Beebe offers free American Heart Association CPR classes for consumers the second Saturday of each month. The course teaches participants how to give hands-only CPR to both adults and children. It also teaches how to use an automated external defibrillator, a device found in most public places, and how to relieve both adults and children if they are choking. Choking can be life-threatening. This course is for members of the general public who do not need a course completion card. To register, call 302-645-3248.

Health Professional CPR Beebe teaches CPR courses for healthcare professionals to improve and enhance their life-saving skills. These are fee-based, credit courses. For information on criteria and to register for the courses, call 302-645-3248.
