More than 20 million adults over the age of 20 have kidney disease, which can progress to end stage renal disease.

Most are unaware of their condition, as the disease is often symptomless until its late stages.

Individuals at high risk for kidney disease include those with diabetes or hypertension, as well as adults age 65 and older, African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans.

Classes will be held every third Thursday of the month (next meeting, June 16) at 1 p.m. at Memorial Hermann

Medical Group Offices (STMC) 2100 Regional Medical Center Drive, Wharton TX 77488.

Check in at the Internal Medicine Department (2nd floor to the left). The classes are free and open to the community and are designed for those diagnosed with kidney disease, along with their caregivers, family and friends.

To enroll in a class, call 1-888-MY KIDNEY. There is an online kidney disease education tool at for those interested in learning at home.
