20th RD Democratic Committee sets meeting July 21 in Lewes

Delaware's 20th Representative District Democratic Committee will meet Thursday, July 21, at Fish On Restaurant, 17300 Village Main Blvd., Lewes. The meeting begins at 530 p.m. with refreshments and dinner for those who are interested. Two candidates for office will be introduced at this meeting beginning at 6 pm. The public is welcome to attend.

Lisa Blunt Rochester is running for the U.S. House of Representatives and will give a brief talk about her campaign. Rochester has extensive experience working for the State of Delaware and served as Delaware's secretary of labor. She also worked as the CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League.

Barbara Vaughan, candidate for representative from the 20th Representative District, will be the featured speaker. Vaighan officially announced her candidacy in Milton July 5 surrounded by enthusiastic supporters from throughout the district. Vaughan has served actively in community, cultural, political and social organizations and activities for the benefit of the citizens of the City of Lewes, the entire Representative District 20 region, and Sussex County for many years.

Vaugan was elected to Lewes City Council in 2004 and served on it for eight years. While on the council, she championed the Historic Preservation Commission, the revitalization of Second Street, the development of Lewes Canalfront Park and smart, planned growth emphasizing the infrastructure required for the city to grow. She was appointed to the Lewes Planning Commission after stepping down from Lewes City Council and is active in the Lewes Historical Society, the Lewes Scenic and Historic Byways Committee, as a commissioner of the Lewes Public Library, and as a founder of the Greater Lewes Community Village. In addition, Vaughan serves on the steering committee of the newly active Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice and is secretary of the 20th Representative District Democratic Committee. In 2015 she received the Citizen of the Year award from the Greater Lewes Foundation.
