Pct. 2 building ready to move in
County gives truck to city for animal control vehicle
Precinct 2 officials will soon be ready to move into their new building... finally.
On Monday, Wharton County commissioners approved a certificate of sub-stational completion of the Wharton County Annex Pct. 2 Building in East Bernard.
"We're finally to this point," Architect Ken Shanks told commissioners. "The county can take possession of the building."
Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Cynthia Kubicek had said they would need about two weeks to coordiate the move into the new building.
After officials are in the new building, the old building will be demolished, and a new parking lot will be installed.
County maintenance supervisor Paul Shannon said Pct. 2 Commissioner Chris King, who was absent from Monday's meeting, wouldn't need much time for his crew to tear down the building.
"I don't think it will take that long," Shannon said. "He (King) tears up stuff pretty good."
In other business, commissioners approved transfer of ownership of a Ford F-250 truck from the Pct. 2 constable's office to the city of East Bernard to use as an animal control vehicle.
"We have numerous calls a week on animals running at large," Pet. 2 Constable J.A. Szymanski said. "The city has a full-time individual certifed to do this. It would be very beneficial to the city."
Chief Deputy Bill Copeland throught it was a good idea to give the truck to the city.
"If East Bernard has a dog catcher, let's give them a truck," Copeland said.
The city of East Bernard has an agreement with the city of Wharton to use Wharton's dog pound and will accept them as long as there's room.
