Lost in the '50s and '60s was the scene last weekend in Wiggins and Stone County.

The Red Creek Classic Car Club held their 5th annual Antique Car Appreciation Picnic at Flint Creek Water Park.

More than 300 antique cars were shown.

The cars started coming in Thursday from four states and as far away as West Texas. Owners lodged at Flint Creek Water Park and local motels and visited local restaurants.

On Friday, approximately 80 cars participated in a "cruise for money" donated by local merchants and had cards stamped for a drawing held Saturday.

Participating merchants included O'Neals, McDaniels, The Pecan House, Advance Auto Parts, Smith Automotive, Cabin Store, Jacks Home Improvement and Wiggins Lube.

The NSRA joined the picnic for their annual meeting and added to the crowd. "We appreciate the opportunity to host their meeting," said Charlie Farmer, president of Red Creek Classic Car Club. "We would also like to thank the people from the other clubs who made all this happen. It was a great honor to have everyone there."

Mounds of food were prepared including 500 hamburgers, 300 hot dogs and a great amount of pies, cakes.

During the weekend, the car club raised $1,000 for the Towe family to help with their medical expenses.

"I would like to thank the Stone County Board of Supervisors for their support," said Farmer. "Also thanks to Lakeview Nursing Center Intivated Therapy of Gulfport and Motor Sports for their support"

The 2016 event will be held the last weekend of July. Farmer said any merchants interested in helping or participating in the cruise event should contact a club member.

All antique car owners are welcome to the club's monthly cruise in held the second Saturday of each month, 6 p.m. — 9 p.m.
