Brown appointed to licensing board

Appointed By Governor To Four-Year Term

Tobie C. Brown, of Harrodsburg, has been appointed by Gov. Steve Beshear to the Kentucky Licensing Board for Specialists in Hearing Instruments.

Brown, a mental health associate and youth advocate, replaces outgoing board member Geraldine Gordon-Brown. Tobie Brown's term will end July 31, 2019.

A Harrodsburg native, Brown earned her degree in history and theater at Kentucky State University, where she was on the National Dean's list.

She has over 20 years of pageant experience and was active in the Miss America organization for several years and is now a pageant consultant and judge. She is also a professional model who went on tour with Ebony magazine.

A former television host on Fox 56, Brown lived in Los Angeles, Calif, for several years, pursuing a career in acting and modeling. She appeared in several commercials, television shows and movies.

Today, Brown is a motivational speaker and youth advocate who works with abused and neglected children with behavioral disorders. She travels and champions such issues like women's empowerment and holds workshops on self-esteem, etiquette and biblical studies.

A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, Brown also serves on the Tourism Task Force in Mercer County, the Harrodsburg Historical Society and as a volunteer for Mercer County Habitat for Humanity.

The Kentucky Licensing Board for Specialists in Hearing Instruments is part of the Public Protection Cabinet Office of Occupations and Professions. The board examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of hearing instrument dispensing. It recommends appropriate changes in the law to assure fairness and equality. The board conducts formal hearings when necessary and prosecutes by due process any violators of KRS 334.

The board is a self-supporting agency and receives no General Fund tax appropriation. It is funded entirely through fees assessed for licensing its professionals.
