Avery elected delegate to Republican National Convention

The 2016 Republican Party of Texas State Convention was adjourned on Saturday, May 14, with Burnet County attendees among the record-making numbers the party says made it effectively the largest political convention in the world.

"We went into the convention as a divided party, and left united in support of the common goal — to elect Republicans in local and national elections," said Donna Holland Wilcox, chairwoman of the Burnet County Republican Party. "We will come together to defeat Hillary Clinton and support Donald Trump. We will work hard to keep Burnet County a strong Republican cornerstone for Central Texas."

Elected as a national delegate was Mary Jane Avery, Burnet County Republican

Party vice chairwoman Precinct 2 chairwoman She was elected by the Congressional Distric: 25 delegation to serve in the 2016 Republican National

Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, July 18-21.

James Dickey, Travis County Republican Party chairman and, Colton Buckley, Coryell County delegate, also were elected by District 25 delegates to round out its allotment of three delegates to the Nalional Convention.

Burnet County also held its maximum voting strength of 29 delegates throughout the convention, making key votes to elect its Senate District 24 State Republican Executive Committee members; State Republican Party Chairman and Vice Chairman; National Republican Committee members; and adoption of the 2016 Republican Party of Texas Platform.

Several delegates played key roles on convention committees, nominations and caucus organization.

Burnet County delegates to the 2016 Republican Party State Convention were: Brad and Donna Wilcox, John and Priscilla White, A.B. and Elizabeth Walters, Tamra Stevens, Elizabeth Johnston, Bryan and Kat. Law, Mary Jane Avery, Kay Stripling, Jim and Lori Fletcher, Rick and Joyce Smith, Galyn Woerner, George Pangbom, Craig Cosgray, Bill Earnest, Gail Teegarden, Janet Crow, Cynthia Klentzman, Mark Axford and Trixie Bond, Russell Tutor, Lenwood and Cecilia Nelson, Sue McCombs and Rick McCombs (alternate).
