This year for the 2012 Idaho's Distinguished Young Women program each contestant is participating in a "Be Your Best Self project prior to the program. The project is called "Handbags of Hope." Its purpose is to gather purses and fill them with 16 different items to donate to local shelters in the effort to help women who have suffered from various forms of abuse and are in need of a little extra help.

The 16 items include mints or gum, lip-gloss or lip balm, Kleenex, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, emery board, small notepad, pen, deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, comb, hairbrush, toothbrush, and toothpaste; all of which need to be travel-sized.

As this is a big project, any donations and support that can be given will be greatly appreciated. The deadline to donate is Monday, Aug. 8. Donations can be dropped off at Main Attractions in Aberdeen.
