Second annual Jubilee offers free family fun

CANTON — The second annual Free State Jubilee will be held from 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, June 18 at the Arbors building on the First Monday Grounds just off Hwy 19 in Canton. Look for the yellow banners.

It will offer something for the whole family. There will be carnival type games, three bounce houses, an indoor shooting gallery, plus face painting, all free to the kids.

In addition to all these fun activities, there will be educational opportunities to learn about gardening and recycling projects presented by the Free State Master Gardeners Association. 4-H projects will be spotlighted as well as the 4-H Fashion Show.

New this year will be booths providing information on services for families. And for anglers, there will be a casting/pitching contest with the assistance of the Grand Saline High School Fishing team.

The Van Zandt Extension Education Association will conduct a cake walk.

Another new feature this year is the Talent of Van Zandt County Showcase where local talent will perform. Any local talent that would like to perform needs to contact Melisa Rhodes by June 10. Local groups and businesses will also showcase their services this year.

Signups for the Fruit and Vegetable contest will be from 9-10 a.m.

The Food Preservation/Canning Contest and the Salsa Contest will begin receiving entries from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The Corn Hole sign-up begins 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the Homemade Ice Cream contest sign-ups beginning at noon until 1:00 p.m.

Judging of all events will follow their respective sign-up times. Cash prizes will be given in each of the competitive contests. Entry forms and rules are available at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office 235 East Groves St. in Canton.
