Theft of power tools, break in, and rollover reported
On Sept. 3 at 8:45 a.m., the Brookings County Sheriff's Department responded to 197th St. and 462nd Ave. for a theft of power tools.
Sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 at 6 p.m., someone entered an unsecured shed and stole the following tools: One Dewalt % Impact 18 volt Wrench with charger and battery, three 18 volt Dewalt batteries, Milwaukee 18 volt Greese Gun with battery and charger, Milwaukee 18 volt battery-engraved "Electric Construction," Deep Well impact Socket Set 7/16-linch, three Lincoln 18 volt battery chargers, six Lincoln 18 volt batteries and possibly some gasoline. The total estimated value of the stolen tools is $1532.
On Sept. 6 at 11:45 a.m., the Brookings County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted break in at the United Parish Church located at 710 Cornell St. in Elkton, S.D. It was found that all of the doors leading into the church had pry marks on them but entry was not gained. The attempted breakin is believed to have occurred sometime between Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. to when it was noticed on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. The damage to the doors is unknown at this time.
These incidents are under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff's Office. On Sept. 6 at 2:04 a.m., a deputy from the Brookings County Sheriff's Office came across an accident that occurred at Jefferson and 1st St. in Bruce S.D. An ATV had rolled and threw the driver and two passengers off of the vehicle, injuring one of the passengers. It was found that the ATV was traveling northbound and attempted to turn west onto 1st St. and the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll. One of the passengers, 44-year-old Laura Kamps of Volga, S.D., was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance with unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff's Office and charges reckless driving are pending against the driver 22-year-old Emily Anne Jensen of Brookings, S.D. The owner of the ATV is Rodney Deboer, age 50, from Bruce, S.D. is facing charges of no insurance, and no valid license plates.
