The Bumet boys soccer team opened their season at the Copperas Cove tournament recently. Despite this being the very first BHS soccer team the boys in green have been finding good success in their early games.

After coming up short to a very good Gatesville team in tournament play, the Dawgs outscored their next two opponents 6-2 to pick-up back-to-back victories.

Burnet defeated Florence, 4-1 and Waco Connally, 4-1.

Leading scorers throughout tournament play included Sergio Leon, Oscar Cardenas, Hector Lopez, Jose Ramirez, and Trevor Turner.

The Dawgs goalie, Kyle Ybarra, had a great save on a penalty kick in the Connally game, among many other saves during the tournament.

On Tuesday, Jan. 12 the Dawgs hosted the Canyon Lake Eagles. Burnet scored first and led most of the game with a goal scored by Leon that preserved Burnet's lead into the second half.

Canyon Lake was able to score three goals in the second half of play which earned them the 3-1 victory.

Burnet did have several players that stood out with excellent play in the game. They include Brock Foster, Leon, Cardenas, Kyle Ward, Slate Simpson, Ulises Rojas, Turner, Ty Pullman, Hector Lopez, Ramirez, Mauricio Mejia, and Ybarra.

"For being a first year program, this team is starting to find its identity. We are fired up about winning every game, and the team has the enthusiasm to conquer any adversity that they encounter," said Burnet's head coach Bryan Robinson.

"It has been a great pleasure to see the community support and being a part of creating the foundation for Burnet soccer here at the high school," added Robinson.

The boys will be on the road Friday, Jan. 22 at Lorena. They will also be on the road the following Monday, Jan. 25 at Salado.

Burnet will return to their home field on Tuesday, Feb. 2 when they host Lampasas at 5:00 p.m.
