Eddie Guardiola may not have scored the most in Estancia's Friday win on their home basketball court. But he broke Magdalena's defense down en route to a 47-40 Bear victory.

Guardiola scored four points, got several steals and dished to Jorge Quintana, who led Estancia with 14 points. Derek Georgia had nine as he is finding a softer touch.

"Eddie has a better basketball IQ and quick hands that can help him make up for mistakes," said Bear coach Robert McCaskill who added that Noah Sedillo also had seven-or eight assists. The Bears had what the coach termed "a tough emotional loss" to a taller, pumped Bosque team, 80-31, the previous night.

"But we're doing a great job for as green as we are," McCaskill said. There are only two seniors on the team, and Eddie's "little" brother Nicky is playing at a few inches taller than Eddie. The Bears led all the way, putting their bench in when up 8-0 in the fist quarter."

When Eddie got four consecutive points just before the third quarter ended, the Bears were up 33-28. Derek Georgia spearheaded an eight-point fourth-quarter run. Despite missed free throws, Estancia held on for the victory
