TEAM Foundation donates $130,000 to Bagley Schools to boost technology skills

Supt. Cairns apprised the Bagley School Board at the May 20 meeting that TEAM Foundation (headed by Deb Mathews, Tricia Young, and Janelle Crabtree) donation of $30,000 to the Bagley School for student technology acquisition.

TEAM Foundation has also committed to a donation of $20,000 per year for five years to cover sustainability critical to success. For technology integration, discussion was held to implement a one-to-one student computer initiative for 2014-2015; have a possible funding mechanism using the New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) for our schools. Bagley qualifies for the NMTC due to federally impacted lands and high poverty areas. The goal of one-to-one student computing would be to provide current and relevant technology skills to all students in grades K-12.

Supt. Cairns recommended that the board hire Gina Rogue as K-12 physical education and health instructor pending a background check. He also recommended the following teachers for tenure: Jacob Stalboerger, Jennifer Bloomquist, Alyssa Carlson, Damon Kietzman, CeeGee Muller, and Sarah Schwegel. Approved.

Supt. Cairns also reported that he is hoping to come to a joint agreement for implementation of Professional Learning

Communities (PLC) for 2013-2014.

The board members were invited to the following end-of-the-year events: Native American banquet on May 21; Staff recognition on May 31; senior awards banquet was on May 28; baccalaureate on May 28; and graduation on May 31.

Kari Maruska, presidentelect of the Bagley High School Student Council, reported an end-of-the year report. During Snow Week, the students collected $103 in cash and $649 worth of food for the Clearwater County Food Shelf. The display case ordered and donated by the Student Council will house BHS Homecoming buttons from six decades and will be installed early this summer in the high school. Her report included the new Student Council officers for 2013-2014. The 2013 Homecoming Week has been set for September 23-27, 2013.
