Barbara D. Hodgson

1933-2014

Barbara Darlene (Bowman) Hodgson passed away on July 25 in Medford.

She was born in May of 1933 in Falls City, Ore. to Floyd Bowman and Juanita (Hawk) Bowman.

Barbara married Byron Hodgson in 1952. They made their first home in Dallas, Ore. They were proud of their family and the generations which followed.

Barbara liked to say that when her youngest daughter started school, so did she. Barbara taught at a vocational education high school for 29 years. She trained high school students to work with young children in roles such as parents, preschool teachers and elementary teachers.

She was very active in the North Clackamas Education Association. She served as a representative for her peers in disputes with management, and advocated for the rights of teachers. In later years, Barbara became a member of the Oregon Retired Education Association.

When Barbara and Byron lived in Portland, she volunteered at the Portland Performing Arts Center. After moving to the Medford Area, she volunteered at the Rogue Regional Medical Center and the Britt Music Festival.

Her legacy includes many relationships with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, former students and a variety of friends.

Survivors include her husband Byron; twin sons, Jeffrey B. (Debora) Hodgson of White City, Ore. and Douglas L. (Coni) Hodgson of Mist; daughters Kari Sue Hodgson Hansen of Mist and Kimberly A. (Evan) Robinson of Medford; sisters Carmela Webb of Woodland, Wash., Kristy (Dick) Steenkolk of Toledo, Ore'., Marilyn (Bob) Craven, and Bonnie (John) Anderson; grandchildren Charles F. Hansen of Silverton and William S. Hansen of Columbia City, and one great-grandson, Charles Ian Hansen of Portland.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

At Barbara's request, there will be no funeral. She will be interred at the Dallas Cemetery in Dallas. There will be a graveside service at a later date.
