At 11 a.m. on this Sat., Nov. 7, the 2015 Gilmer County Veterans Day Parade & Program will take place.

Attention all Veterans and families: You are invited to attend this event in order to be honored. All Veterans are the Parade Marshals.

The program begins at City Square Park, where Glenville State College's master saxophone professor, Jason Barr, will play the mood music of past generations going to war. Afterwards, the program begins with an invocation, Glenville Mayor Dennis Fitzpatrick's official welcome, and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by area youths.

The Gilmer Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), lead by Commander Kenneth Wimmer, will proudly hold the colors high and, then, lead the parade down East Main Street to the Historic Holt House Museum (about two short blocks). The marching music will be provided by one or more of Gilmer County High School's State Championship Band, of Band Director Ms. Brianna Blankenship.

Speaking from the Holt House's front porch, the ceremony will be brief, but include the reading of the names of the county's Gold Star Boys, a speech, a benediction and, finally, the explanation of and playing of Taps by Mr. Harry Rich, the college's wind instrument Professor Emeritus.
