Edsell C. Whitten

Edsell C. Whitten, 82, of Centertown, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Centertown, son of the late Arch and Etta Beatty Whitten. He was of the Baptist faith and a 56-year member of the Centertown Masonic Lodge #714. He enjoyed hunting, baseball and basketball.

Edsell served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a farmer and worked as a coal miner at Center Prep for Peabody Coal Company in Centertown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Nell Whitten; a daughter, Jo Carol "Jody" Wiggins; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Gordon.

Survivors include one daughter, Candy Whitten of Centertown; three sons, Kenny (Wilma) Whitten of Centertown, Keith (Linda) Whitten of Hartford, and Kevin (Tommie) Whitten of Centertown; a sister, Mae (Charles) Bennett of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Lealin Geary officiating. Burial was in Centertown Cemetery with Ohio County Color Guard performing the last rites at the cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to
