With nineteen vehicles decorated and at least twice that number of people in costume handing out the treats, plus an estimated 150 trick-or-treaters, the first annual Halloween Trunk or Treat event in Hendricks was deemed a success.

The idea for the event was brought to the Hendricks Community Club's attention by a lake resident who thought it may be fun for those who do not normally get trick-or-treaters to their homes, to come to town and hand out treats to the kids. Trunk or Treat events in other communities have become quite popular, and it was decided to try it in Hendricks. The event was open to residents both in and out of town who would like to participate, with the instructions to decorate their vehicles and, if possible, to dress in costume. Prizes were given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of a best decorations contest, determined by secret judges.

Josh and Jackie Bekaert took, first place, with Irene's Cafe (Lynn Graham and Jonathan Lengkeek) taking second. Bill and Cindy Schultz were awarded third place. Winners were given $50, $25 and $15 in Hendricks Bonus Bucks, sponsored by the Hendricks Community Club.

A freewill donation fundraiser was held in conjunction with Trunk or Treat, with the proceeds agoing to the. Lake Hendricks Improvement Association.
