County OKs buying two new vehicles

The Jewell County Board met Monday with commissioners Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Dwight Frost present. Carla Waugh, county clerk, was also present.

Minutes of the Oct. 26 meeting were approved.

Travis Garst, solid waste director, said they are replacing the sky lights with hail damage on the out building. Travis successfully completed the HHW certification. He also provided the monthly activity report for October.

Carla Waugh reviewed the list of proposed Jewell County designated holidays for 2016. The commissioners approved the list.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, provided an update on the operations of the department.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, provided an update on the operations of the department. The commissioners reported road concerns. Joel had quotes for a Ford 1 ton 4WD chassis only: Alexander Motors $29,132; Melton Motors $29,646; and Beloit Auto Truck Plaza $33,470. He also had quotes for a Ford 3/4 ton Regular cab 4WD: Alexander Motors $28,376; Melton Motors 2015 $29,970; and Beloit Auto Truck Plaza $28,787. The commissioners approved the purchase of both vehicles from Alexander Motors: 2016 Ford 1 ton 4WD Chassis only $29, 132 and 2016 Ford 3/4 ton regular cab 4WD $28,376.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, explained the SAFE program. The program is encouragement for students to wear their seat belt.

Darrell Miller, county attorney, discussed hospital operations.
