I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I spent two days celebrating (eating) and will be regretting it until next year. I am very grateful for my family and friends and the great life I have in Heavener.

Thanks to Craig Hall and the Ledger for the nice article about the Chamber. We are working hard to help make Heavener an even better place to live and work. I want to also mention one of our board members inadvertently left out of the article, Barbara Tyson. She owns Shawnee Creek Realty and Talking Trees campground and has been very busy working along with Jeanne Harris on the Business and Tourism committees. I so appreciate all of our board members. They have done such a great job getting us back on our feet.

Our annual Christmas Parade will be this Saturday at 2 p.m. If you are going to be in the parade we will meet at the high School at 1 p.m. to get lined up and for the judging. The theme this year is "A Fairy Tale Christmas" and the same theme will be used for the Poteau parade if you want to participate in both parades. It's not too late to enter so make plans to be there. Santa will be at the library after the parade for goody bags and pictures.

Dec. 13 will be the annual Runestone Radio Auction from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on KPRV 92.5 FM radio. A list of auction items will be in next week's paper so you can pick out the items you want to bid on. We have a great selection of items this year that would make great Christmas gifts.

The phone numbers to call will be in the paper.

This event helps raise operating funds for the Runestone Park and highlights businesses in the area that have donated items for auction. Make plans to help support your park and area businesses.

Dec. 14, the Holiday Express Train will be here at 4 p.m. The train is an awesome sight and your kids (and kids at heart) will love it.The Chamber and area businesses will provide coloring books for each child that visits the train and other items will be provided by the employees of KCS. I hope everyone will make plans to support all of these events.

Let's talk about volunteers. This time of year is very busy and people are doing everything they can to help others and their own families make this a joyous time of year. The Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers year round. We are going to begin elections for new board members this week and if you are now a Chamber member or would like to become one please think about volunteering to serve on our board of directors.

I will be sending out requests shortly and those who volunteer will be placed on a ballot to be voted on by the Chamber members. I need three new board members for the coming year.

We meet on the first Monday of each month at the Chamber office to make decisions for the Chamber.

The only other duties would be to help with events if possible and come to ribbon cuttings.

Keep us in mind. We need your help.

Have a wonderful Christmas season and a prosperous New Year.
