Representatives of the Wirt County Board of Education will meet with the State School Board Authority Nov. 9 to request $2.6 million for repairs to many of the deteriorating roofs on the county's school buildirigs as well as an exterior weatherproofing component for some buildings that have water seeping through cracks in the masonry.

The board approved superintendent Albin and board president Carl Brainard meeting with the SBA and presenting three proposals for the project.

Albin told the board that the SBA has about $56 million distributed this year.

She also told the board that the match required by each county to receive SBA funding varies and that Wirt County has a lower match percentage required than some of the other counties.

"We may get our entire request and our match would be about $180, 000, "Albin told the board members.

"However, we will submit two additional proposals which will allow us to do different parts of the project. This adds flexibility to our request and gives us more opportunities to get some of the funding," the superintendent said.

Albin said the first proposal is for the entire $2.5 million project, which includes roof repairs on all of the schools as well as the weatherproofing at the high school. Proposal two would fix the most critical roofs and the weatherproofing, and proposal three would fix the roofs where the new HVAC units would be installed and three leaking roofs at Wirt County Primary Center.

"We have a great reputation with the SBA that we take very good care of our buildings and the amount of what our match would be is still fluid at this time," she stated.
