A new elevator at the end of the east wing of the Lovell Stake Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon be in operation to give people a lift to the second floor.

Project Manager Alan Palmer of Denver said the elevator is being installed to allow for easier access for the disabled to the second story of the church building at 50 W. Main in Lovell.

"The community is getting older, and some people can't access the classroom space up above," Palmer said.

Greg Rael of general contractor Synergy Construction said the design phase was done last year, and the project was placed in the church budget this year with construction beginning around August 1.

"The biggest lead time is the elevator itself," Rael said, adding that the elevator from the Thyssen Krupp elevator company is scheduled to be delivered Nov. 16, followed by three weeks of installation.

In the meantime, work has been done to prepare the building for the elevator including a foundation extension, electrical work and construction of the elevator shaft and attached vestibule.

Rael said the elevator must operate on single phase power, whereas most elevators run on three-phase power, so he said the elevator will be slow but functional.

Subcontractors include Midway Construction, excavation and earth work; A&E Building Services (Ron Walker), steel framing and wood sheeting; Acton Masonry, block work; JP Masonry, insulation and the brick veneer; and Yellowstone Electric of Powell, electrical work.

Rael said Bob Acton and crew wrapped up the block work this week, and JP Masonry (Jamie Petrich) is starting work on the insulation and the outside brick veneer, which will match the existing brick as close as possible. ThyssenKrupp will perform the elevator installation, and the church will then install carpet to complete the project, Rael said.

Rael said he expects the elevator to be up and running by mid-December.
