SHERIFF'S DEPT.

A Leesburg man was pronounced dead at the scene of a traffic accident that took place on U.S. Highway 129 last week.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m., Oct. 28, a little more than a half-mile from the intersection of Highway 129 and Mathis Road. David Allen Wren was the driver of a 2007 Lincoln. According to the accident report by Jones County Deputy William Jernigan, the driver crossed the center lane.

The Lincoln struck a 2009 International Pro star cab driven by Andrew Guy of Bainbridge.

Jones County Sheriff's Department fatality investigator Kenny Allen stated that Wren was headed toward Gray and Guy was headed toward Eatonton when the collision took place.

Allen said the reason why the driver of the Lincoln veered into the other lane of traffic is unknown, but the vehicles hit pretty much head-on.

The driver of the International cab was transported to the hospital from the scene but was treated and released. Allen said Guy was not pulling a trailer and was bob-tailing to South Carolina to pick up a load.

The investigator said no autopsy was performed. Blood was drawn from the deceased, and he is waiting for the toxicology report. He said speed did not appear to be a factor, and no skid marks were found at the scene.

A witness who was driving a car in front of the International truck told Jernigan he saw the Lincoln cross the centerline and he had to leave the roadway to avoid a collision. The witness added that the truck driver had nowhere to go.
