County 4-Hers win honors at state dog show

Nine Nicollet County 4-Hers were among the 500-plus 4-H members who participated in the State 4-H Dog Show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds September 24-25.

The participants were selected to represent Nicollet County 4-H based on placings at the Nicollet County 4-H dog show in August.

Between them, the 4-Hers brought home five state championships, two reserve championships, an award of excellence, eight blue ribbons, and six red ribbons.

Amanda Johnson of New Sweden 4-H and her dog Molly captured champion honors in three categories-agility, obedience, and showmanship. Johnson also won a blue in agility-jumpers and a red in four-team.

Christine Engel of Norseland 4-H and Rex won a championship in agility jumpers. They also earned blues in agility elementary, agility jumpers and four-dog team.

Kendra Allen of Nicollet 4-H won a reserve champion title in showmanship, a blue in four-dog team, and a red in obedience.

Mallory Male-cek of Norseland won a reserve championship in showmanship.

Benjamin Johnson of New Sweden won an award of excellence in rally, a blue in obedience, and a red in four-team.

Summer Engel of Norseland 4-H won a blue in showmanship and a red in obedience, Paige Fitterer of Bernadotte a blue in obedience, Kara Johnson of New Sweden a blue in obedience and a red in four-team, and Mindy Malecek of

Norseland a blue in four-team and red in obedience.

Instructing the Nicollet, Blue Earth, and Brown County 4-Hers this year were Gala Beckendorf, showmanship; Lindsey Beckendorf agility and obedience; Amanda Johnson and Christine Engel, obedience; and Mary Schroeder, rally obedience. Key City Kennel Club allowed the group to use its facility.
