Meet Andrea Johnson, she has been hired as the Middle School/High School Art Teacher for the Pleasantville Community School District starting the 2015-2016 school year.

She lives with her husband Ben, and they have two cats Ninny & Fancy and one dog, Addy.

Some of her hobbies include playing with her cats, playing games such as tetris, catch phrases and cribbage, snowboarding, playing on sand volleyball and kickball leagues, yoga and creating art.

This is Andrea's first teaching experience and she is very excited to be a part of the Pleasantville Community School District. Her desire to teach at a smaller school was prompted by her own experience growing up in Griswold, Iowa. She feels very blessed to have this opportunity to teach in Pleasantville. The small town atmosphere has made her feel at home. Additionally she enjoys the smaller class size because it allows her to focus more on students individual needs and development.

After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, she moved to the Des Moines area and began instructing classes at the Ankeny Art Center. It didn't take long to realize her passion for teaching art. She decided to pursue a further education and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching Degree from Drake University. Her future outlook is to be an overall advocate for all the fine arts.

I encourage students to join any of the visual or performing arts offered in Pleasantville. For the studio arts, specifically, she hopes to expand the program towards more shows, exhibits and competitions. More so than anything, she hopes to spark the curiosity and make an impact in all of her students lives.

Meet Jenny Mortensen, she has been hired as a new preschool teacher for the Pleasantville School district for the 2015-2016 school year.

Her parents live in Griswold, Iowa, her oldest brother and sister-in-law live outside of Adel, Iowa, and her other brother lives in Des Moines.

Jenny's hobbies include playing and coaching sports, spending time outside and hanging out with family and friends.

She graduated from Griswold High School and went on to graduate from Iowa State University. She is a BIG Cyclone fan!

Jenny taught last year in Washington Iowa, teaching Early Childhood Special Education. She loves the sense of community that is present in a small town and she also wanted to teach in her own classroom and be closer to family.

She says she is very excited for this year in preschool and hopes to continue teaching here for years to come.
