The Wahluke Warriors traveled to Columbia Burbank and skinned the Coyotes, 60-13 last Friday night.

The scoring came from rushing for 526 yards and passing for 45 more. Jason Cruz picked up 150 yards and scored two touchdowns. Brandon Anaya had two scores, as well, on 115 yards while Dan Corrales carried for 55 yards and a touchdown. Juan Silva added a 30 yard run and a score and Jose Alejo ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense David Pineda had 5 tackles while Erick Valdavinos, Ethayn Kinney, Leo Mendoza, Jason Cruz and Marco Guerrero all had 4 tackles each.

The win gives the Warriors a 4-5 regular season record and puts them into the District playoffs. They will face Zillah in the first round.

Coach Mike Foristiere was happy with the teams accomplishments, but had this to say, "You may think after a score like this everything was just fine in our game with the Coyotes. Only with the score! We made many mistakes and at times played down to the level of our opponent. The difference between a contender and a pretender is that we don't drop to an opponent's level of play, but play at a level that is acceptable to the players and the coaches. So heading into next week's playoff game we need to focus and play at the best level we can."

Coach Foristiere also mentioned that opposing coaches this year have commented to him on the improvement the Warrior football team has made over last year and the growth of the younger players is a positive step in the Wahluke football program. i

This is a good thing as the Warrior's are graduating quite a few seniors and will be counting on those young players to fill their shoes.

The playoff game is at Zillah on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 pm.

A Warrior send off is planned for this Friday. No specific details were available at press time. Call the school at 932.4477 for information or check the Wahluke School District Facebook page.
